If you know the Galvanized steel, it is much easy to get an idea for Aluzinc steel.
By the way, this same product is also called Zinclume or Galvalume. They are just different trade name for same product.
Galvanized and Galvalume, the only difference is on the metallic coating.
For GI, the metallic coating is zinc layer on both sides, while for Galvalume, we call it GL as an easy way, the metallic coating is an aluminium-Zinc & silicon alloy on both side.
Why bother to change the metallic coating?
The reason is GL steel gives the material much improved corrosion resistance. Aluzinc steel coatings out-perform galvanized coatings from 2 – 6 times. This is achieved through the combination of the sacrificial protection of the zinc and the barrier protection of the aluminium. The hot-dip-galvanized coating initially protects better but the zinc coat will gradually corrode away more and more in the vicinity of the edge and the protective effect will be lost. Then the aluminium part of the Aluzinc coating will persist for a longer period of time, and the protection will thereby remain.
